Event Rigging Safety and ETCP Compliance Checklist
Rigging failures at concerts and events have caused fatalities. This inspection follows ETCP (Entertainment Technician Certification Program) rigging standards and ANSI E1.21 to verify all overhead loads are safely suspended before any persons are permitted below.

Venue Structural Capacity
Verify venue structural capacity before loading.
- Venue-certified structural capacity documents available and reviewed?
- Total distributed load within venue certified capacity with minimum 7:1 safety factor?
- Individual rigging point loads within certified point load capacity?
- Hoist motor loads distributed across multiple certified rigging points?
- Beam clamps rated and properly applied to structural steel?
Rigging Hardware Inspection
Inspect all rigging hardware before use.
- All shackles rated, moused, and free of damage?
- Wire rope slings within rated capacity and free of broken wires or kinks?
- Chain hoist motors current inspection with load-sensing brake?
- Secondary safety bonds (secondary points or safety slings) on all significant overhead loads?
- All hardware within manufacturer certification dates and working load limits?
Fall Protection for Riggers
Verify fall protection for all riggers.
- All riggers wearing full-body harness when above 6 feet?
- Anchor points for lanyards rated minimum 5,000 lbs?
- Shock-absorbing lanyards or self-retracting lifelines used?
- Anchorage points not loaded in a way that could cause shock load failure?
Exclusion Zones
Establish and enforce exclusion zones.
- Exclusion zones below active rigging work established with barriers and signage?
- Exclusion zones enforced - no unauthorized personnel below rigging?
- Hard hats required for all personnel near or potentially below rigging work?
- Exclusion zone cleared and confirmed before any load raised?
Pre-Show Rigging Signoff
Complete pre-show rigging safety signoff.
- Full visual inspection of all overhead loads from stage level completed?
- All chain motors locked at show height and motors in chain park?
- Any automated rigging or automation system tested and travel limits set?
- ETCP rigger available on call throughout show for rigging emergency?
Rigging Documentation
Verify rigging documentation is complete.
- Rigging plot documenting all rigging points and loads available on site?
- Load calculation worksheet completed and signed by lead rigger?
- Venue structural capacity documentation on site?
- Rigging inspection record signed by ETCP certified rigger before show?
