Wire Rope Sling Inspection

OSHA 1926.251(c)(4) wire rope sling criteria. Remove from service if any deficiency found.

  • No broken wires exceeding limits (10 in one lay, 5 in one strand)?
  • No kinking, crushing, bird-caging, or core protrusion?
  • No severe corrosion or pitting?
  • No evidence of heat damage (discoloration, melted lubricant)?
  • Rope diameter within tolerance (no >1/3 original diameter reduction)?
  • End fittings (thimbles, ferrules, clips) secure and undamaged?
  • Adequate lubrication present?

Alloy Steel Chain Sling Inspection

  • No link wear exceeding 15% of original diameter?
